About Kidderminster Stride and Stroll
Walking group structure and safety
- THURSDAY SHORT WALKS - Start at 11 am. Walks are no longer than 45 minutes.
- GROUP D - Start time 10:30 am. Usual length is 3 to 4 miles. Duration 2 Hours. Few Stiles.
- GROUP C - Start time 10:30 am. Usual length is 4 to 5 miles. Duration 2 Hours. Stiles occasionally.
- GROUP B - Start time 10 am. Usual length is 5 to 6 miles. Duration 2 Hours. Stiles usually and inclines occasionally.
- GROUP A - Start time 10 am. Usual length is 6 to 7.5 miles. Duration 2 - 2.5 Hours. Stiles and steep inclines occasionally.
- Routes are pre-walked mid week to check for risks, obstructions and weather damage.
- Group walk details are added to the website 'Cards' after the pre walks.
- All walk leaders are formally trained in all the aspects of leading a potentially large (20+) group of people over mixed countryside and road routes. Whenever necessary (At walk leader's discretion) there will be a trained leader who will act as a back marker to warn of any hazards from the rear of the group. Leaders carry whistles to attract attention where necessary.
- The walking groups provide different levels of physical challenge, beginning with a gentle 45 minute stroll with the Thursday short walk group. Group D provides a slightly more demanding walk than Thursday group and then C, B and A groups raise the physical demands further.
Health and Fitness
- Walks of sufficient length to burn calories.
- Walks of sufficient intensity to improve the cardiovascular system.
- Walking is a low impact activity which can improve joint strength.
- Walking can help maintain bone density.
Administration
- A 'Passport' will be issued to allow walkers to record important information such as contact phone numbers.
- On the day of a walk, all walkers forenames are recorded by the leader of their chosen group.
- Regular meetings of Walk Leaders are held to co-ordinate and continuously improve the the group structure.
